One Radiation Detector To Rule Them All!
Creason Kearny's Fallout Radiation Detector requires no electricity, little to no understanding of physics and only an hour or two to construct
Cresson Kearny was the greatest Civil Defense officer who ever lived and he was forbidden to publish his own research for years after he retired. Kearny sought and gained permission to make his research public and the result was his landmark free public domain book NUCLEAR WAR SURVIVAL, which was previously published on this site.
Kearny knew that there had to be some kind of ultimate dirt-cheap fallback for every major requirement of people surviving nuclear war - and this is one of his very best.
It’s a radiation detector that runs off static electricity and can be built out of scrap that can be scavenged almost anywhere.
The typical use case I see for this Kearny meter is …
A very poor family has taken shelter in their root cellar for a couple of weeks and maybe they don’t have a radiation detector, it broke, got dropped or fell down and damaged. Even running out of batteries for it would be extremely common and yet the need to detect radiation would remain anyway.
They need to know when to take shelter, when it’s safe to come out, when they may need to go back down again. They can’t see radiation but it can kill them all the same.
The Kearny meter is self-calibrating, fixed by the laws of physics and few operating requirements other than it sits stable on a flat surface where it is cool and dry. The meter once built can be stored forever with little to no change in accuracy. It’s nearly perfect for what it is and how much it costs to make.
When the wind changes or a flash is seen on the horizon of another weapon being used, it is very important to know if there is fallout headed your way and you may have to put your family back in your shelter until it decays to safe levels.
I bought mine assembled for about $50 a while back for the ultimate back-up device when nothing else works.
For those of you who don’t believe there are nuclear weapons, you should know that simply mixing dirty salts into a conventional bomb will kill you just the same and is certain to be a big ticket weapon in World War III whatever the truth is. Either way, they can depopulate vast areas with a dirty bomb and nobody will ever know the difference. Compared to biological and chemical, radiation weapons are about 99% easier to deploy over large areas. One scoop in the nosecone and screw the top shut, the bomb is ready for action in an incendiary device that incinerates the powder and turns it into a dispersible. Radiation you don’t know is there until it is way too late to matter or somebody starts to show symptoms.
This easy deployment is why parts of the Middle East are now so radioactive they are not safe because of the widespread use of depleted uranium shells. Thanks Bush Klan, you destroyed some civilian regions who just got running water and flush toilets a while back.
The instructions are here as they were printed in the original newspaper article released nationwide. I believe that before the bad guys really took over, there were still a few patriots left like Cresson Kearny. This is his gift from beyond the grave - a radiation monitoring device that will never fail and doesn’t even need electricity.
They staged a money competition to see which family could build their own meter in the quickest time given the raw materials and not a single family failed to assemble it in the alloted time frame … resulting in a meter that passed all tests and worked.
Present in the NWSS book as a long chapter but here all necessary information is consolidated into a single plan that is fairly simple to follow.
