Incredible Wild Fairy Potatoes
They are actually yams but they taste like ambrosia spuds! They grow themselves and they grow everywhere in North America! Another reason you need butter powder in your preps!
Whether you cultivate them yourself (“wild gardens”) or just find them in the woods, this is an extremely nutritious tuber that can keep you alive when conventional sources of food have dried up.

When I was very little, around 10 years old, my father and I arrived in this cabin he shared with his friends and he began to prepare some venison in the freezer. I never liked the stuff, gamey and tough. You have to be pretty hungry to eat it. While the deer meat was cooking up in the skillet in oil my father went out in back for a couple minutes. I looked out the back window and saw him digging up wildflowers. He came back inside a couple minutes later with a paper bag of these strange knobby tubers. My father Ben called them “Forest Taters.” My dad washed them off in the sink and trimmed the eyes back of each one, then sliced them and put them in another cast-iron skillet.
These wild growing surprise yams were so delicious once they were boiled in oil and lathered with gravy it made me forget how much I dislike venison. They had a weird seasoning of their own and my father added garlic salt to that. Soft, succulent and a rich aroma that made your mouth water. Would have to be the best potatoes I have ever had anywhere.
I had seen fields of these white flowers a million times all over the Southeastern coastal States of America and never dreamed what those flowers were connected to underground - until I saw my father dig them up in back of the cabin.
