Street News Part Four : "Nomad"

First bump is gentle and you barely notice ... like a shark. Then they circle back around.

Bet you thought the Street News story had finished. I was saving the most interesting part for last. It’s actually the one that tells you the most about where the government was, where it was going and where it ended up.

Found a copy today in storage and it was still in good shape. First run was 15,000 copies I believe … two color cheap newsprint. If you think it looks kind of zany, I hoped to make it funny, tongue-in-cheek and weird enough you would remember it if you bought it. I had celebrity interviews, zodiac, a crazy quilt of content just to try to put something in it for everybody. On the back was a map to Hollywood which was so popular a lot of people bought it just for the map!

When I started my own Street Newspaper in Los Angeles, completely funded and produced from my own pocket, it was obvious that just like when the mob controls your neighborhood that nothing happens on that street without their permission. Nobody just “starts a business” or “publishes a newspaper.” It’s not sanctioned and you will find out you were never free to do anything without the thugs deciding they’d allow it. You don’t see those thugs until you move but if you just sit there until the day you die and do nothing, they are unlikely to ever bother with you.
