"Tomorrow" By Philip Wylie (1954)
Hardest of hardcore atomic porn from one of the biggest 1950's paranoids of them all.
Philip Wylie wrote what is possibly one of the most shocking books about the aftermath of atomic war in the 1950’s with his lurid and disturbing “Tomorrow” novel. It passed into the public domain recently and if you are a connoisseur of the nuke apocalypse genre I would say it is must-reading alongside ALAS, BABYLON by Pat Frank.
Unfortunately, compared to the modern reality of WW3 approaching it is likely tame stuff in comparison. The sheer carnage and mayhem that follows the attack was written in a high trust society with a fairly homogeneous culture. Imagine this book if it was set in modern America. It would be the mother of all bongo parties.
