First of all, I think I ruined a clean pair of underwear when I logged into my dashboard and saw how many people had subscribed, including a remarkable number of Founding Members. Never saw that coming.
I didn’t start up again to turn Vault-Co into a profit generating business. When I organized my Substack initially, I figured once in a while somebody would send me a $5 gratuity which I would promptly spend on $5 worth of electronics on EBay. The real point was to start up Vault-Co again because clearly scripture says the Watchman will sound the alarm or he will answer for it to God when the time comes. I ran Vault-Co without making a single penny off it for 18 years and refused to put up ads on the site even once the traffic reached into unique millions of hits.
Now I have to treat it like a business. After all those subscriptions, I have to work on it every single day. Thank you for all that confidence. Now I have to deliver on the “wonders beyond your imagination” part.
I am never going to use Vault-Co Communications (this Substack) for technical discussion. The original “vault-co.com” will soon point to the technical site which will be exclusively about the Holy Grail/Ultimate Woozle/Final Server/Last Word in Survival Managers that I have christened “VAULT-SYS.” I am the current holder of the www.vault-sys.com domain in anticipation of it’s release. This site you are on (Substack) will be reserved for far more serious discussions for voluntary subscribers. If I get killed, they will be killing me just for thinking thoughts that people have chosen to read of their own free will. I can live with that and if you’re reading this right now, don’t go after people’s family. Just kill me and we’ll call it even, I’m okay with that. I should warn you, the head is not actually a vital target on a Neanderthal, so don’t waste a bullet there.
This post will be the one and only time I have technical discussion on this site, after this it will be a separate topic handled exclusively on vault-co.com when I turn the new site on.
Even then, I am not going to bore you with the details, except to say if you show me any asshole who works on anything for 25 years day and night, I expect that something whatever it is to be pretty spectacular. There has to be some reason that person felt it needed that many iterations to be perfect. I felt this way about my game Grimoire and I can assure you I expect that VAULT-SYS is going to be something so impressive it will be like that scene at the end of RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK when the unclean attempt to open the box to look at the Ark of the Covenant and their heads melt away.
Someday I will tell you the story of what happened my final months in Australia. You won’t believe it but I will tell you the plain truth one of these days. The important thing to mention is that when they isolated me in a mountain cabin, cut off my electricity, gas and water and attempted to freeze me to death at 80 below, I had some of the most amazing ideas as a programmer I have ever had before in my life. My fingers were so cold I could barely type on my laptop but it was pure gold.
It suddenly occurred to me after 20+ years of programming Berkeley Sockets TCP-IP, there was a way so simple, so elegant and so concise to write an HTTP web server, an MQTT server, Telnet server and websocket server in a single non-blocking polling process that it literally could not be improved upon. I found 3 unused ports I now call the “VAULT-SYS trunk” that handle all network services in one process, no threads and lightning fast. While I was typing like a centipede with poison ivy, I could see the real PIP-BOY I was born to create running this system with a local wifi network built out of empty Pringle cans nailed to trees around a prepper’s house. With instant communication with base that was all integrated into my process services which I have written over the years to do all sorts of plug-n-play crazy work the likes of which you probably would not believe. I just got my original CLIPS Expert system running as a service diagnosing plant diseases. You could be inside your permaculture lab asking the master server for help figuring out why your hydroponics crop was doing poorly in real-time. Yes, ASKING for help by voice because HTML5 has built-in voice synthesis and recognition standard on browsers in the 25 years I have been working on this system. Things have changed a *lot* since my first version was running in VB-BASIC FOR DOS in 1997 and they have only gotten better for my needs. (It’s not a priority at the moment but yes it will run on DOS, after I get the primary versions out cross-platform! I’ve got the required ancient libraries sitting now with my existing build on Win32)
I am promising to put this first up on Github in August of 2023, at least my first stable iteration. Right now I have all web services running but I have a ton of Lua pages I now need to replace with a vastly superior combination of REST services and AJAX calls. The Lua pages formerly did things like inventory, personnel, medical, dashboard etc. which I have replaced with a much better Holy Grail automated system for drawing all pages from data descriptions. I can’t tell you everything in the new version because this post would run into a thousand pages of text all concerned with the code I have written since August 2022 right up to the present on 4/12/2023. Needless to say, it’s gonna automate your life as a prepper or survivalist! If you ever dreamed of running a Vault for your preps like the ones in Fallout 3 but thought you would never have access to that kind of dream technology - itz COMING! The whole point of the last 25 years has been making it all so cheap and affordable that nearly anybody could figure out how to wire their shelter for central brains, security and safety! On IP4 and nobody spying on you in a closed circuit, local network with EMP protection!
I only went through all that blather to announce this : I decided I have to offer all subscribers something, no matter their tier. Vault-Co as a source library on Github will be available for free under MIT License but all subscribers to Vault-Co Communications (where you are right now) will get access to the binary compiled apps for Windows, Linux, Mac and hopefully ARM devices. (ARM is getting too cheap for the computing power to ignore as a platform) Paid subscribers will get all .PDF manuals (there will be a mountain of them that have to be written to support all the bus services as totally discrete modules) for free! I have a SendOwl site where I can share keys for all those .PDFs and paid subscribers will get keys sent to them automatically. Founding Members will get private posts for Vault-Co tech that is so mind-blowing it may not be released to the public for years, in addition to free access to all manuals and first-come basis for newly compiled fixes and upgrades. In addition, all Founding Members will get 24 hour support turnaround on any feature in VAULT-SYS, in addition to private modules and add-ons that will never go up on Github - some for security reasons. An example of this would be the shortwave drivers for worldwide email telegraph on the Super Rockmite CW Transceiver service, which I have working right now! I don’t think the general public should know the details of that service, just general mischief after the apocalypse might be loading that email service up with junk from newbs and dabblers. (Yes, I will show people how they can build a world-wide broadband antenna from a $4 Slinky!)
To summarize perks at this time (there will be more later) :
Free subscribers get access to binaries for all platforms, pay for .PDF Manuals
Paid Subscribers get access to binaries and all manuals free
Founding Members get all the above and 24 hour support + SOOPER SEEKRIT TECHNOLOGEE
If I think of some more, I will add them as we go
It’s been a pleasure and I am glad to be telling you about these things. I have probably made more progress in the last 6 months than the last 6 years on what was originally called VAULT-OS, then CD-OS … now VAULT-SYS. I am proud of my work and very anxious to get it in front of people who are smart enough to appreciate it.
Keep your faith in God and his word strong and remember to take me with a grain of salt.
Regards, Tex
I would well imagine, part or a great part of the subscribers here, are due to Anonymous Conservative.
Not sure if you're aware of him :
